Fabulous felt
I recently had the pleasure of checking Barcelona off my travel wish list. I’d wanted to go for years and wasn’t disappointed: the city is as lively as I’d heard, and I spent much of my week there wandering the labyrinthine streets and staring up at the city’s sensational architecture. That’s how I stumbled across home on Earth, which had just opened on calle hospital 76.
It doesn’t get much cuter than this shop, which is owned by the lovely Mette, who hails from Denmark but lives in Barcelona with her hubby and their two little boys. Mette makes and designs many of the store’s colourful felt home and fashion finds herself, including bowls in soft pastel shades, cosy slippers and — my favourite thing in the shop — felt pompom rugs.
Mette told me each rug is made from 1,000 balls of felt that are hand-rolled from boiled, felted wool. They’re perfect for a kid’s room, cottage or to warm up an all-white space.
There’s also adorable kids clothes, cool modern pendant lights, candles, pillow cases, jewelry, journal covers and more — all with a Scandinavian-meets-global charm.
Unfortunately, I was flying home the same day Mette was hosting the store’s opening party, but I snagged a few souvenirs for myself and friends. If you’re ever in Barcelona, be sure to drop by, say hello, and pick up one of her colourful creations. (Many of which are eco-friendly to boot!)
P.S. If you have a sweet tooth, make sure you also visit Hofmann Bakery in the hip El born area and try the tiramisu croissant. They’re deliciously decadent and eating one with a cup of tea became a morning ritual for me.
P.P.S. If a trip to Spain isn’t in your budget right now, learn how to make your own felt bowls and pillows in this recent house & home online TV segment!
